Voices for Science

I had the powerful opportunity to advocate for polar science as a 2024-2025 Voices for Science Policy Track Fellow over the past year. I hope to write several posts describing my experiences, but highlights included:
– visiting the offices of my congressional representatives to discuss science funding priorities
– developing materials highlighting my work and the upcoming Fifth International Polar Year
– sharing about my experience to fellow glaciologists at the Ice Sheet and sea level System Model workshop at Dartmouth College and the International Glaciological Society Northeast Glaciologists Meeting at Cornell University
– submitting a session proposal to train attendees in best practices for meeting with congressional offices at the 2025 SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference.

I also put together a list of resources for scientists to draw from if they are interested in science communication training or policy advocacy!

About the International Polar Year:

Voices for Science was an incredibly rewarding program. I was continually inspired by other fellows’ endeavors, and the AGU staff were incredibly supportive. I learned a lot and plan to continue building on my work advocating for polar science.

Please reach out if you would like to learn more! Applications for the next cohort are due June 15, 2025! https://www.agu.org/honors/voices-for-science
